About Knapp Architects

Knapp Architects provides full architectural services and specializes in historic architecture, preservation services, and consulting. Based in San Francisco, the firm has practiced in the Bay Area and Northern California since its formation in 2006. In addition to preparing customary architectural documents, the firm performs historical research and analysis, provides planning services related to historic buildings and resources, and consults on entitlements and environmental review of projects involving historical resources. The firm benefits from ongoing collaboration with allied professionals experienced in architectural history, landscape history, and architecture.

Mr. Knapp has 25 years of experience in architecture and historic preservation. Registered to practice architecture in California and Arizona, he has worked in all phases of architectural practice.He exceed the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards in Historic Architecture, History, Architectural History, and Preservation.

The firm's skill set and qualifications include familiarity with sustainable rehabilitation approaches, full use of AutoCAD and computer-modeling, and historical and archival research. The firm is a California corporation; bank and vendor references are available upon request. We are registered in the U.S. General Services Administration DUNS database. The firm is a San Francisco Human Rights Commission-certified Local Business Enterprise.

Current projects include rehabilitation of the former San Francisco Main YMCA for use as housing (Kelly Cullen Community), rehabilitation of the Old Federal Building at 50 United Nations Plaza in San Francisco's historic Civic Center, and renovation of California Memorial Stadium at UC Berkeley.
